This game has an official release date now. September 9th, 2014.

I hope this game is awesome.

Looking good if you liked Borderlands.  Just hope it offers a little bit more

At first, like Skyrim, I was a bit overwhelmed. In the case of Destiny, the planets are Skyrim's world. You fly to them, with or without friends, and your adventures begin. You have new areas to discover and explore, random events that anyone nearby can join and participate in, and of course, missions. You don't have linearity at all unless you are dead-focused on getting to a particular place on the map. While some choose to paint a wrong picture comparing this to Borderlands, I would say this is much more deep and mysterious with an element of danger that certainly gives me a Skyrim vibe but with all the earmarks of Halo, but with lethality, adventure, and loot.

I preordered yesterday and my beta code arrived today.

This video has some info about loot and weapons.  The private loot stream is different from Borderlands and sounds like a good idea.  I hope you'll be able to trade loot, though.  I also like that any class can use any weapon.

I think the chance to get Alpha codes has passed.  And I think the Alpha lasts only through the weekend.  I did not get one.  But I'm probably going to pre-order to get a beta code.  The beta starts July 17th.

Just realized I preordered this game on Amazon on December 13, 2013. I believe that should have entitled me to a code.

Pre-order gets a beta code. But the alpha was an E3 thing.

No, it's on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Sony has a marketing arrangement with Destiny so it's been associated with PS4 a lot. Playstation may get early access to the Beta. And Playstation gets some exclusive content for the game.

Only time exclusive. But yeah, they haven't mentioned the other versions in over a year. Sony really wants you to think they got Bungie tied up.

The Alpha is pretty awesome so far. It's also not really an alpha, very very polished.... just a lot of content missing or locked out. Besides that it feel like a polished game.

I'd say its a cross between borderland and halo with some RPG elements and a Des/Dks inspired online persistence. It's really confusing at first since there's no explinations, but once you start to understand how the PvE, Strike coop, and story elements work it makes sense.

I just got the Alpha code this morning so it should last a couple more days.
